Joseph Gordon-Levitt is developing a remake of the classic musical about a killer alien plant, Little Shop of Horrors. There's a big possibility that he'll end up starring in the film as well, which is set up over at Warner Bros.
This would be the third time that this Little Shop of Horrors got the big screen treatment. The original film came from Roger Corman in 1960. The story followed an unconfident florist who becomes successful after he discovers an unusual looking plant that turns out to be an alien from outer space who eats people. It was then turned into an off-Broadway musical. Then in 1986 Frank Oz remade the movie with Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and the best movie cameo ever by Billy Murray. If everything falls into place, Gordon-Levitt will take on the lead role of Seymour, the geeky florist who "is forced to feed the beast in order to keep his fame and popularity rising." There's no director attached yet, but I think it's a great project for Levitt to tackle. The guy fits the role and he seems to really enjoy singing. I can see him doing a great job with this film project, and I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of it.

Mention names like Teela, Stratos or Skeletor to someone who was a kid in the '80s, and the response will likely be not only recognition, but adoration. [Newsarama Note: I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said "By the Power of Grayskull! I HAVE THE POWER!" Cringer became the mighty Battlecat, and I became He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe! Yes, that was by heart. In July, DC Comics is launching a brand new, six-issue He-Man and the Masters of the Universe comic, trying to attract a whole new audience to those once familiar characters while still retaining the fandom of those who already loved it. Written by James Robinson with art by Philip Tan, the comic will update the concepts behind the toys for a modern audience. The He-Man comic will be based on the 1980's media franchise that was built around a line of popular action figures and toys. In fact, Masters of the Universe was once so popular that the toys spawned two TV cartoon series and several spin-off lines of action figures, plus a live-action film. Just like the cartoon, the He-Man comic takes place in the land of Eternia. But in the new comic, the evil Skeletor has already taken over the world, and Eternia's heroes have forgotten their "Master-ful" nature. A character called the "Sorceress" awakens He-Man to his true purpose, and he embarks on a quest to restore the rest of the group. For the He-Man comic, Robinson is working with artist Philip Tan, with whom he was rumored to have been working on the Hawkman relaunch last year. Instead, Tan launched Hawkman with Tony Daniel, but then left when a new creative team came on board that title. Before that, Tan provided art for DC series like Green Lantern and Batman and Robin. On He-Man, Tan will be working with inker Ruy Jose to update the well-known characters for Robinson's story. Two new photos from The Amazing Spider-Man have been released, featuring shots of the Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans. Even though they don't give a full on frontal view, they're still cool, as you get to see the detail put into the design. I'm excited we are finally going to see the Lizard up on the big screen. It's looking like Spider-Man is going to have a rough time with him. I imagine we're going to end up seeing more of this villain in the upcoming new trailer for the film.
Synopsis: The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures. The executive producers are Stan Lee, Kevin Feige, and Michael Grillo. The film hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012. It looks like all that speculation and internet chatter about J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2 that we've all been talking about over the last year is actually true. There's confirmation of three of these big rumors that most of you have heard or read about, and the fact that it's all true now takes this news into spoiler territory. If you don't know what rumors we're talking about or you don't want to know which rumors have been confirmed, I suggest you stop reading, because that's where this article is going to take you. One of the major reveals tells us who the main villain in the movie is, which is being played by Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch. I got all this information from TrekMovie. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! . . . . . First - A couple of days ago a rumor hit that Leonard Nimoy would be back as Spock in the film. That is now actually a reality. Nimoy will indeed be back as Spock Prime and his work on the film has already been completed. Looks like Abrams was able to pull Nimoy out of retirement for one more big screen Star Trek appearance, which is great! Second - This is the big villain reveal! Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the villain Khan! That's right! There's been speculation from the very beginning that Khan would be the main villain in Star Trek 2, but when Cumberbatch was cast as the main villain it kind of threw everyone off. TrekMovie has confirmed this with a number of sources, and they have no doubt that we will see Khan kicking ass in the film. I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise as Khan is one of the greatest Star Trek villains ever. And the site points out that the 2009 DVD commentary reveals that they had considered a post-credits scene in the first movie showing the Botany Bay, Khan’s sleeper ship. So they've obviously been planning this from the beginning. Third - The sequel will also feature Klingons! So it looks like we're actually going to get to see what Abrams' version of big screen Klingons will be like. They were almost included in the first film, but they ended up being cut out. I think most of us expected the Klingons would be in the new movie. It's nice to have confirmation though. This is exciting stuff! I don't really consider these spoilers as it's stuff that I want to know about the movie! Knowing this gets me even more excited about what Abrams and his crew are creating for the fans! The Avengers is doing so well in theaters right now overseas that there's a strong possibility that we'll see another Hulk movie even though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said recently that it probably wouldn't happen. When he was asked about giving the Hulk another shot by the Huffington post he said, Well, no. This was the other shot. Right? I mean, this was the third appearance of Hulk and everything that we had and were going for, we put in to Hulk’s appearance in Avengers. So, I love that people are saying that and are feeling that way about Hulk, but mission accomplished at this point. And the way we go forward, we’ll see. But it was a long road to get to this point. … But we’ll be very careful about it and deliberate — as we were in how we wanted to bring him back in Avengers. Now I've been hearing from a lot of people that Hulk steals the show in The Avengers, and if that's true, then why not develop another movie with the big green beast. Marvel's President of Consumer Products, Paul Gitter, recent talked to Forbes and revealed that the studio is “pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal response” to Mark Rufflo's Hulk, and says, His sales are up in a major way. We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner. Gitter has this idea to sell Hulk as a new corporate icon, and if his popularity continues to grow the studio will “spin him off to a stand-alone program next year,” which we know is being developed with Guillermo del Toro, and then adds that we might get a new movie in 2015. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd love to see a new Hulk movie with this Avenger's version of Hulk developed by Joss Whedon. What about you? Microsoft has officially announced that they will be developing a new live-action Halo Web series that will be launched before Halo 4 hit stores this fall. We might not be getting a live action Halo movie anytime soon, but Microsoft hopes this new series will revive big screen interest in the property. The series will be called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, and there's a ton of money being pumped into it. Microsoft revealed that this is the "the largest investment" they've ever made in a live-action project to date. It will play exclusively on the entertainment website Machinima and at the online community Halo Waypoint. It will play out over five weekly installments, and each episode will be around 15 minutes long. There aren't many details that have been revealed on the project, but there will be a big announcement revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. They did say that it will tell an "original story about the game's Master Chief and how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity spacecraft." They go on to say that the "introduction of the new character will tie in with the plot of Halo 4, while providing a flashback to the beginning of the Halo franchise's war between the humans and the evil Covenant." Matt McCloskey, director of franchise business management at 343 Industries, explained the purpose of the new series. "Microsoft wants to use the "Halo 4" Web series as a way "to make 'Halo' accessible for people who haven't played the games. We wanted to do something unique from a narrative standpoint that's big in scale." The demand for this web-series spawned from the awesomeness of the live-action Halo commercials that have been released over the years. Some of these commercials have been directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman). It's great for the fans that they are going to explore this universe even further, but they didn't want this series to just appeal to the hardcore fans. Frank O'Connor, franchise development director at 343 Industries had this to say, Playing the games and reading the books or other "Halo" spinoffs is "a big commitment. "We needed a way to ensure there was a way for people to get onboard this universe without feeling intimidated." As a result, the Web series is "an origins story that teaches you about a lot of different facets of the ('Halo') universe." This web series is the next step for the Halo franchise, and they hope that it will eventually lead to developing a feature film adaptation, of the franchise which is what we've all been waiting for! McCloskey added, "I don't think anybody needs any reminding of (the potential). Everyone keeps reminding us of that." He then concludes by saying this is "not just a marketing piece to promote the game. We wanted to go way beyond that and transform this live-action exploration from advertising into a full standalone product that people will enjoy." As many of you are hardcore fans of Halo, We'll have to see what they have in store for us! I hope it turns out as epic as they make it sound. As you can see the DCR webpage has changed over the weekend and we are still in the process of redesigning and reconstruction the design and flow of the website. We hope you like the current changes and the changes to come in the next few weeks. Please let us know what you think of the website and check back often as we will begin to post things both on this blog and our social networking pages. |
